Everything is in readiness for the Qld contingent of Superfit Vets players to take the Australian Championships by storm in Melbourne from 26 Sept to 11 October!
A huge thank you needs to be extended to all the managers who have been working frantically organising the support for the teams. Also a huge thank you to Paul Hardie who has been collating the uniform orders and to Warren Flower, Steve Billingham and Ross McLennan who have been organising substitute players, and the accommodation. This in itself has been no small feat as there have been numerous replacements organised due to players withdrawing from teams because of injury etc. Every time there is a replacement it means a change to the uniform order, changes to the official program list, and more importantly changes to the configuration of room sharing especially if partners are accompanying.
Good Luck to all players. To those of you who will wear the Qld shirt for the first time, savour the experience as there is nothing quite like the feeling of representing your State as you run on to the field that first time. To all the old hands, the responsibility, the thrill and the excitement of representing your State is something I know you do not take for granted and everyones game lifts accordingly.
Importantly, the Mens Vets Hockey Competitions provide the opportunity to make and renew friendships with other players both from Quensland and interstate. May your time in Melbourne be as rewarding and as much fun off the field as it is on the field. To this end we would hope that all Qld players make an effort to watch as many other Qld games as possible during the fortnight of the championships to encourage your hockey mates.
UNIFORMS These will be distributed in Melbourne as Just Hockey has the uniforms in their warehouse in Melbourne and it just did not make sense to transport the gear to Qld only to have to carry it back to Melbourne. They will be available from your managers on Sunday 27th.
TRAINING Fields have been allocated to us between 9:30 and 11:45 on Sunday 27th for team training and your manager has the details as to the time your team has been allocated. The training fields are: Fields 1 and 2 McIvor Reserve , Fogarty Av Spotswood ( Part of Footscray Hockey Centre) and at the second venue which is Altona , JK Grant Reserve, Sugargum Drive, Altona.
MEETINGS There will be a Qld managers meeting arranged for Sunday 27 and also there will be a tournament captains and managers meeting also on Sun 27th. In addition there will be a QLD Vets Committee Annual Meeting held on the middle weekend of the tournament. This is your opportunity to have your input on the running of Qld Vets and to present any ideas you might have for improvement. The date and time will be advised during the tournament. If those of you who are not travelling to Melbourne want to have some input into Qld Vets please feel free to contact Gil Voysey (President) through this website. (Look under the "Committee" link.)
